Exploring the features of MS Excel interface

Introduction

In our previous lesson we learnt much about a computer interface.
1. I would like you to tell us what an interface is?  kindly type your answers in the comments section.
2. Observe the image below and tell the class what it is? kindly type your answers in the comment section.

Development

Before the interface above can be used it has to be launched. that is making it accessible.
below is a video to show you the steps used to launch MS Excel on your various computers.

These are the steps in the video:

1. Click Start
2. All Programs
3. Microsoft Office
4. Microsoft Excel.
A new, blank workbook appears, ready for you to enter data.
Now that we have been able to launch MS Excel, we are going to learn about the features of the MS Excel interface.

Below is an image with the features of MS Excel interface

Features

1. Quick Access Toolbar:  The Quick Access Toolbar is a collection of shortcuts to the features, options, commands, or option groups that you use frequently

2. Name Box: the Name Box displays the cell that is currently selected in the spreadsheet. It is located to the left of the formula bar.

3. Ribbon: The Excel ribbon refers to the tabs at the top of the Excel interface that helps users to navigate and locate the commands when using Excel.

4. Active Cell: The active cell is the selected cell in which data is entered when you begin typing. Only one cell is active at a time

In your various class teams, discuss on other features of the excel interface and send the feedback through the comments section.

Now we continue with a very important aspect of MS Excel which are rows and columns.

ROWS AND COLUMNS

Rows and columns are different properties that together make up a table.
These are the two most important features of Excel that allow users to store and manipulate their data.
Below we'll discuss the definitions of a row and a column, along with the differences between these two features

Observe the images and outline the differences between a row and a column in the comment section.

A Row

A row is denoted and identified by a unique numeric value that you'll see on the left hand side
The row numbers are arranged vertically on the worksheet, ranging from 1-1,048,576 (you can have a total of 1,048,576 rows in Excel).
The rows themselves run horizontally on a worksheet.
Data is placed horizontally in the table, and goes across from left to right

A Column

Columns are denoted and identified by a unique alphabetical header letter, which is located at the top of the worksheet
Column headers range from A-XFD, as Excel spreadsheets can have 16,384 columns in total.
Columns run vertically in the worksheet, and the data goes from up to down.

Cell Reference and Name Box

  •           Cell reference refers to a cell or range of cells on a worksheet and can be used for computations

  •          Name box displays the cell that is selected in the spreadsheet
